Melanie Relf RIBA
Melanie is, unusually for an architect, passionate about rules. When she fell into the healthcare sector after splashing around in the shallows of the transport and education sectors, it was a breath of fresh air for both sides. The design of healthcare facilities requires a very specific attention to detail, throughout often substantial and complex buildings housing an eye-watering variety of uses. A missed detail can be catastrophic.
On establishing MiRA, Melanie understood that the same level of detail is appreciated by residential clients; an approach that has rapidly become a practice trademark.
Despite working with a plethora of seriously corporate corporations, she has managed to retain a level of honesty, integrity and vulnerability that surprises, and forms solid and valued connections quickly.
Melanie is a keen believer in cross-pollination between seemingly unrelated fields, and explores materiality through metal and fabric sculpture when she is not hanging out with her family or working unorthodox hours. Sometimes all three occur simultaneously, with unpredictable results!
“Melanie was a pleasure to work with. She provided regular updates and clear guidance to the international team. With a demanding client and regularly moving goalposts Mel kept us all
on track and was always willing to take calls at unsociable hours to discuss and help resolve issues and questions.”

“The substantial/successful submission of the [project] is a testament to both Melanie’s willingness to take ownership of and see through any issue brought to her attention and her ability to logically assess and prioritize the critical path across our multi-disciplinary team.
I have been involved on several large-scale multi-office projects and have yet to come across a Project Manager who has made such an effort to put myself and the team in the best possible position to succeed.”
